As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.
Everyone longs for community! And that’s a good thing.
God himself said at the very beginning when he created Adam that it was not good for man to be alone. In fact, it is the only thing in the creation narrative, on which God doesn’t give his stamp of approval. So God creates Eve, so that man can have companionship. Why? Because community is good. This is further attested to, by the fact that God himself, who is perfect and good, exists eternally in community as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. So, like Him, we are meant to live in community!
You see it is only through community that we are able to experience so many of the fundamental truths of the gospel. Without family and friends we wouldn’t know what love is. Without community we couldn’t experience forgiveness. Without close relationships there would be no compassion, empathy, repentance, reconciliation, or even a sense of mission. All of those things not only require community, they are deepened by it.
To be clear, Gospel Communities are not Bible studies. Their main directive is not to provide instruction. Rather they are groups designed for the purpose of gaining deeper community, with God and with fellow believers. Discipleship is about more than knowledge, and far too often the more relational, and practical side of discipleship goes overlooked. Gospel Communities focus on relationships, prayer, and accountability. So, if you are wanting to enter into Christian community; where you can be real with your struggles, receive prayer, encouragement, and accountability, be equipped to apply biblical truths to your everyday life, and help others to receive the same, then fill out the form below to get connected to one of our groups.

Gospel Community Leaders
Connecting to a new group can be hard, and we really want you to feel comfortable in your gospel community. While our leaders don't represent everyone in their groups, we believe it's helpful to have a sense of who the leader is and to feel like you at least know one person in the group before you dive in.
TIM & KRISTIN COOPER
Thursdays at 6:30pm
We have been members of MMC for 5 years. We enjoy helping with both the kids and the youth programs. We came to know about MUMC through the Preschool Program. We have two daughters, Kailyn (13) and Teagan (10). We both grew up in the Piedmont area of North Carolina. Kristin is a full time mom and Tim is a scientist at a polymer company. Our family enjoys camping, movies, board games, and pretty much any travel we can manage. Tim is always working on projects to improve the house and enjoys pottery and drawing/painting with the girls. Kristin is very active with the girls and all of their extracurricular activities (dance, art, Taekwondo, etc.). She enjoys reading and watching various TV series with the family (can’t wait for the next season of The Mandalorian.).
Rob & Jill Cornwell
Tuesdays at 6:30pm
We have been members of MMC for 13 years. We have a daughter, Sydney, who is a Junior at the University of Tennessee. Originally from South Carolina, we have embraced Tennessee as their daughter’s second home, and have enjoyed attending football games on Rocky Top. We live on a small lake in southern Greenville County, and enjoy kayaking, hiking, and sitting by the fire while admiring new beauty God reveals at every sunset. We are looking forward to leading a small group and growing in Christ together.
steve & Amy Byce
Sundays at 5pm
We began attending MMC in 2014 when our son was enrolled in the church preschool (MMPK). In the last ten years, we have served on the Children’s Ministry team and the Youth Ministry team. We consider MMC our “home away from home.” Amy has a Masters of Education from Converse University and is currently the Director of MMPK. Steve is a litigation speciality for a small family-owned insurance business. In our free time, we enjoy kickboxing, working in the yard, and spending time with family. Steve is also pursuing his black belt in Taekwondo. We have three children who have all been active participants in MMC children and youth programs. We feel fortunate to have been a part of a GC here at MMC and look forward to shepherding this group moving forward under God’s direction.
Bert & Jennifer Medlock
Sundays at 5:30pm
We have been active members of MMC for many years. Bert is an airline pilot and retired from the US Air Force. Jennifer works for North American Rescue as a legal assistant, but her favorite job is being Bert’s wife and Mom to Mallie and Joe. Both graduate in 2024, Mallie from Clemson and Joe from high school. Jennifer has sung in MMC’s contemporary service since it began and still enjoys worshipping through music. We all love to travel, eat good food and spend time at the lake. We believe to those much has been given, much is expected, so we try our best to give back and live this life to the fullest! We look forward to learning together in community with you.
SALLIE MEYER
Thursdays at 7pm
I worked for 40 years as a registered nurse in the emergency department. 3 years ago I retired, relocated to SC and transferred church membership to MUMC. I have served the church in many capacities at local, district and conference levels. I was actively involved in UMW (United Methodist Women), taught an adult Sunday school class for many years, and led several Bible studies. I have also served as chair for the spiritual growth and development committee. Academically, I have completed a nursing degree and have a Master's degree in Christian Ministries from North Greenville University. Hobbies vary from traveling (especially the beach),cooking, reading, card playing, live performances and NFL football. My passion is for teaching Biblical studies especially as they relate to growth and discipleship and I look forward to getting to know you better.
